What is copyediting?

Copyediting is what you think about when you hear ‘editing’ in a fiction context.

This includes making sure your timeline makes sense and your characters don’t change hair colour within two chapters, but also includes fixing spelling and grammar, and fact checking.

Sensitivity Editing

What is sensitivity editing?

Sensitivity editing focuses on accuracy for authors who don’t have lived experience with a specific topic. (Race, gender, sexuality, occupations, etc.) However, this is not just opinion, I will always back up my edits with research if it’s objective.

Why do you need a sensitivity edit?

Sensitivity edits provide the author with the reassurance that they are writing experiences realistically without leaning into harmful stereotypes.

It also helps avoid reputational damage by catching mistakes before publication, filling knowledge gaps, and giving context.
